The ambitious national project “Tourism Explores” for the creation and acceleration of new startups is been launched by Turismo Portugal and Fabrica de Stratups. This project also aims to combat regional asymmetry by holding the programme simultaneously in several cities in Portugal, through collaboration with different parties including ADRAL - Alentejo Regional Development Agency.
For 2 months the programme will host more than 500 people, in 12 cities, where 50 teams will be created to work on innovative solutions for the tourism sector. Tourism Explorers is a programme consisting of two phases: Ideation and Acceleration. In the ideation phase, which runs from 5 to 9 June 2017, new solutions will be created by people interested in developing tourism-related projects based on the sector's strategic challenges. In turn, in the acceleration phase, which will take place between 19 June and 4 August 2017, teams with tourism-related projects will be able to test and validate their business models.
The Tourism Explorers programme aims to boost the development of innovation and entrepreneurship in Portugal by supporting the creation of new start-ups with innovative products and services focused on the tourism sector. Throughout the programme, entrepreneurs will have access to excellent trainers and mentors, and to the FastIdeation and FastStart methodologies of Fábrica de Startups, already widely tested in the development of new businesses.
