The Valencian Community recently held the 1st annual meeting of “Industrial Symbiosis Observatory”. The initiative was launched as the result of collaboration with companies and organisations from the productive sectors and it is coordinated by Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE). The aim is to promote concepts of industrial symbiosis, identify best practices, quality information and guide industrial policies.
For the period 2021-2027, IVACE is committed to innovative and intelligent economic transformation, energy transition, circular economy and risk management. They are in charge of coordinating this initiative in the framework of the European project TRIS (Regions in Transition to Industrial Symbiosis) within the commitment of the Regional Ministry of Economy to promote sustainable reindustrialisation in line with the Smart Specialisation Strategy of the Region (RIS3 CV) and the Circular Economy Plan and the European Green Pact that advocate the mobilisation of industry in favour of a clean and circular economy.
The Observatory was created with four main challenges: the development and application of the concepts of industrial symbiosis in the region, the identification of best practices in industrial symbiosis for its promotion in the industrial fabric, the generation of primary information on industrial symbiosis in the industrial sphere and the orientation of industrial policies and actions to promote industrial symbiosis in industry.
It is undoubtably the Administration's responsibility to facilitate the involvement of companies in the transformation towards sustainable model. RDAs have a crucial role as boosters, which is why the participation and cooperation between the Administration, entities and companies in this Observatory, in which they want all companies to participate, regardless of their size and the sector to which they belong, are key element.
