ROM Utrecht Region, Ponooc and BOM invest EUR 2.5 million in mobility platform Tranzer

Today we want to show you how local development agencies can contribute by investing in companies that are relevant to the well-being of the region. In this case, the focus is on planning and managing the transport of citizens in a more accessible and efficient way.

The ROM Utrecht region together with two other companies has invested a total of € 2.5 million in a mobile application: Tranzer.

Tranzer is a Dutch app founded in 2016 by Paul Rooijmans and Sanneke Mulderink. Tranzer allows you to buy tickets for public transport worldwide directly from any app. After purchase, the ticket will appear on your phone and you can travel immediately. Tranzer currently operates in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy and offers service on all international trains in Europe.

Sanneke Mulderink of Tranzer:  "We believe that planning, booking and paying for public transport around the world will increasingly be integrated into a total journey. You no longer have to install a separate app for this, but will receive the offer directly from your favourite app. But we also expect the world's leading planners to start offering public transport tickets in the near future."

Since 2020, Tranzer tickets are available in the OV9292 journey planner for train, bus, tram, and metro in the Netherlands. This allows travellers to buy and pay for tickets directly in the same app in addition to planning the journey. This makes Amersfoort-based Tranzer the largest provider of public transport tickets in Europe.

Jeffrey Williams of ROM Utrecht Region: "Despite the new infrastructure, traffic jams in and around urban areas are expected to increase. Mobility-as-a-Service offers a solution to this by simplifying the use of public transport for commuters. With its advanced platform and expert management team, Tranzer, based in Amersfoort, is well positioned to benefit from this trend".

Tranzer's innovation makes it easy to organise and pay for your public transport journey from your favourite app. Major national and international airlines such as NS, Connexxion, GVB, SNCF and Thalys already offer their tickets via Tranzer. Major companies such as OV9292, KLM and Freenow already use Tranzer's services.

This funding will be used to further automate the platform and further increase the company's revenues. Today there was a toast to the investment and the collaboration officially concluded, with the presentation of a symbolic ROM tree by Alderman Willem-Jan Stegeman of Amersfoort, "Amersfoort has an enormous amount of innovative power. This internationally operating company is a good example of this. Working on smart digital solutions for mobility problems, Tranzer fits perfectly into the Earth-Valley profile of our region. Therefore, I am very pleased with ROM Utrecht region's investment in Tranzer because this contribution from the Participation Fund strengthens the company, our city and the region".
