The event was held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from March 19th to 21st, and showcased 64 important winemakers from the regions of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Attica, Western Greece, Epirus, Thessaly, Crete, Central Greece, and other parts of the country.
The national stand, organised and supported by Enterprise Greece, occupied a prominent position alongside traditional industry powers like Italy. Visitors to the stand were able to taste a wide variety of Greek wines, including over 300 varieties of local grapes and corresponding terroir.
The new generation of Greek wines, made by passionate and enthusiastic winemakers, has gained a well-deserved reputation around the world. In 2022, the sector saw significant growth with exports of Greek wine and spirits increasing impressively in major European and North American markets. This growth was accompanied by a simultaneous increase in the average selling price per litre, reflecting the value and appreciation of Greek wine among consumers worldwide.
PROWEIN 2023 attracted over 6.000 winemakers from around the world and approximately 49,000 professional visitors from 141 countries. During the three-day exhibition, visitors had the opportunity to taste a wide variety of wines at the national pavilion's Free Tasting Area, operated under the guidance of Greek sommeliers. Two seminars on Greek wine, led by Caro Maurer, Master of Wine, were also held.
Enterprise Greece's participation in PROWEIN 2023 highlights the country's growing reputation as a top wine-producing region
