CLIMAAX” Project Shares Call for Evidence of Local and Regional Climate Risk Assessments

Article written by Jip Lenssen – Project Officer

Climate change is one of the most pressing and threatening issues of today.

Not only the frequency but also the intensity of severe weather events increasingly poses threats to societies, and economies across European regions. As these events get more frequent, it is important to understand the risk itself to develop strategies to adapt to them. This is commonly done through regional and local climate risk assessments.

The CLIMAAX project (CLIMAte risk and vulnerability Assessment framework and toolboX) helps European regions, communities and cities to better understand, plan for, and manage climate risks by granting regional and local authorities access to climate risk profiles, enhanced early warning systems and guidance on creating all-encompassing and context-specific risk management strategies.

CLIMAAX will do so by co-designing a methodological framework to assess the impact climate change poses and its effects in European regions by comparing existing frameworks together with the responsible authorities. CLIMAAX aims to launch this multi-risk assessment methodological Framework and Toolbox to support regions’ increased awareness and preparedness for climate risks.

The CLIMAAX project strives to construct a comprehensive and highly accurate Framework and Toolbox for climate risk assessment at local and regional level. To achieve this, the project is seeking evidence on reports, frameworks, standards and principles relating to climate risk assessment and management in Europe and beyond. The risk assessments may have been applied for various purposes such as strategic and tactical, cross-border and single or muti-hazard risk assessments, among others.

More specifically, the CLIMAAX project welcomes submissions of evidence from sources such as regional or case studies, policy reports and commissioned assessments that cannot be accessible through scientific bibliographic databases.

Any individual or organisation is welcome to participate in the development of the framework for the toolbox to conduct climate risk assessments. If you sign up for the call for evidence you will be able to provide feedback on the Framework and Toolbox and take part in piloting the application of the Framework and Toolbox. For more information please visit this website containing all relevant details on the call for evidence.

If you are interested in submitting evidence or you are interested in participating in the piloting of the Framework and Toolkit, please contact callforevidence(at)climaax.eu. The submissions may be introduced in any of the official EU languages.
